Cannonau from Sardinia
Cannonau is perhaps the wine that best represents Sardinia. This wine is cultivated throughout the island, with approximately 30% of Sardinia's vineyards dedicated to Cannonau, covering around 7,500 hectares. Of these, 70% are grown in the interior, mainly in the Nuoro region. The origin of the wine is still not entirely clear - studies suggest that wine was already being cultivated during the Nuragic era (from around 1500 BC).
Cannonau is characterized by a very delicate flavor that varies from zone to zone. It has a good aftertaste and expressive notes that evoke flowers or fresh berries, ripe hints of fruity jams, and a touch of warm spices that distinguish this wine.
