Cantina DORGALI
Established in 1953 on Sardinia's eastern coast, Cantina Dorgali was founded by a group of Dorgali farmers. Today, after over half a century of continuous growth, it stands as a significant player in Sardinia's wine industry. The focus is on a new project that emphasizes production, cultural heritage, history, and local traditions.
The star of the show is the Cannonau grape, a cornerstone of the regional viticulture. Thanks to unique soil and climate characteristics, Cannonau expresses distinctive qualities that remain unexplored. Initiatives for improvement start in the vineyard, with altered cultivation practices and low yields. These changes extend through every stage until harvest.
Cantina Dorgali doesn't rely on sophisticated winemaking technology but employs suitable techniques to highlight the grape's distinct traits. This approach lets the region reclaim its authentic identity, seen as fundamental to enhancing the quality of the wines.
Strength in Unity From its modest beginnings, Cantina Dorgali now boasts around 220 members, both local and from nearby areas. Together, they cultivate approximately 650 hectares of vineyards. Through their remarkable efforts, the winery produces between 18,000 and 20,000 hectoliters of wine annually.
Over 60 Years Together Cantina Dorgali proudly defies the historical prejudice towards Sardinians, proving the resilience, growth, and innovation that come with over 60 years of dedication. This commitment has led to noteworthy accolades, including the "Cangrande Medal" in 2016, presented by the President of the Republic during Vinitaly, and numerous awards for their wines in significant national and international events.
A Modern Expression of an Ancient Tradition During harvest season, the sight of grapes being meticulously handpicked continues to captivate observers. Cultivating 650 hectares of vineyards and producing around 27,000 quintals of grapes with care and respect for each plant is the legacy passed down from generations. This is their enduring skill.
Between the Sea and Mountains The traditions, territory, and history of Cantina Dorgali position it within the newly recognized "Classica del Cannonau" region. Nestled amidst stunning landscapes, plateaus, and terraced slopes between the Supramonte mountains and the Gulf of Orosei, this area boasts diverse geological and climatic characteristics. These contribute to the creation of exceptional, quality wines in close proximity to various natural and archaeological wonders.
