Iselis Rosso Monica di Sardegna Superiore DOC by Argiolas impresses with its deep ruby red hue in the glass and an intense bouquet. Aromas of black cherries, plums, and spice notes of cinnamon and vanilla dominate the nose. On the palate, this wine reveals a harmonious and velvety character, with extremely gentle tannins and a balanced fruity spiciness that harmonizes perfectly with the grape's characteristic acidity. The finish is exceptionally long and pleasant.
The grapes for this wine thrive in the small vineyard of Iselis, surrounded by olive trees, a salty lagoon, and a romantic country church in Serdiana, in the hinterland of the Gulf of Cagliari in the south of the island. Iselis Rosso is crafted from the indigenous Monica grape variety, native to the Cagliari region. Mastering this grape variety requires a deep understanding of its personality to fully unlock its potential. Monica di Sardegna gains complexity and structure from the addition of Carignano and Bovale Sardo grapes. After manual harvesting, the grapes undergo maceration at a controlled temperature of 28-30°C for 10 to 12 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in glazed concrete tanks for 10 to 15 days. Subsequently, the wine matures for 12 months in French oak barrels, followed by a 6-month bottle aging period.
This fruit-forward, complex Sardinian red wine pairs excellently with flavorful dishes such as traditional pasta with Sardinian sauces, aromatic fish soups, grilled tuna, braised lamb, medium-aged Pecorino cheese, and grilled red meat.
